Alliance Appoints CEO

The Alliance of Sector Skills Councils today announced the appointment of John McNamara as its first Chief Executive.

Highly regarded and with extensive experience in the skills and development arena, McNamara is currently Chief Executive of BII, the professional body for the licensed retail sector, and is also Chairman of FAB, the Federation of Awarding Bodies. He was previously a Director of the Hospitality Training Foundation, responsible for the Hospitality Awarding Body, and had an 18 year career with NatWest Corporate Banking.

Creative and Cultural Skills Hits Edinburgh

Creative & Cultural Skills has decamping to Edinburgh throughout August to promote career development at the world-famous Edinburgh Festival.

Whilst in Edinburgh, the team will be promoting Creative Choices, the new website designed to help people get in and on in the creative and cultural industries. The pioneering new website is the first user-led online service to provide the tools, knowledge and networks to support every artist, sole trader and business across the creative and cultural industries. Individuals wanting to work in these sectors can explore their skills and discover a range of courses, qualifications and opportunities and research pathways to get where they want to be.

Lifelong Learning UK Expands Scottish Team

LLUK Scotland is delighted to welcome two new members of staff: Marian Healy joined Team Scotland as Sector Manager in July, with Jamie Wakefield following in August as a second Information Officer.

Both Marian [Marianhealy@lluk.org] and Jamie [Jamiewakefield@lluk.org] are very welcome additions to the growing LLUK Scotland staff base and each will play an important role as LLUK Scotland works to deliver its Sector Skills Agreement commitments through its work plan for the coming year.

New Recruit in Scotland

The Alliance in Scotland is pleased to welcome Paul Powrie to the team, filling the new post of Development Manager. In recent years, Paul has worked in the areas of Learning and Practice Development in Leadership and Management within the NHS and the Voluntary Sector. Scottish Surveys

The Scottish Government has published the National Household Survey. This report provides useful information on educational attainment, economic activity and household composition. The Age Participation Index for Scotland is used to measure the percentage of young Scots entering full-time higher education within the UK.
