IMI launches innovative careers website - Autocity

Showing the retail motor industry as a desirable career option. The Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) has launched an online information website to help young people, adults and careers practitioners find out about the hundreds of jobs available within the sector.

Autocity brings to life the diverse roles available within the industry by using video case studies of real people in real jobs. Visitors to the site can also find out about qualifications, salary guidelines, job descriptions and lots more.

Research into Online Trading

IT departments working in isolated basements, as parodied in TV's The IT Crowd, may be a thing of the past, research by six Sector Skills Councils has shown.

The study led by Skillsmart Retail found that because of the growth of online trading, IT workers, far from their traditional image, now have to be creative, world-aware and business-savvy to succeed. They are now a central part of the wider workforce and drive future development in sectors as diverse as retail, transport, finance and hospitality.

It also found that booming e-commerce means sectors not traditionally linked with IT are creating brand new technology-related job roles throughout their businesses and working much more closely with IT workers to help them succeed. More...

IT Training Consultation

e-skills UK invites comment on its draft training framework for the IT profession from employers and other stakeholders with an interest in the UK's IT professional skills pool.

The IT professional Competency Model (e-skills PROCOM) is being established as an industry-recognised, internationally relevant training framework for organising courses and qualifications by the disciplines of the IT profession. Built on IT professional National Occupational Standards, and linked to the Skills Framework for the Information Age (SFIA), PROCOM defines knowledge, understanding and competencies for seven broad disciplines (and their sub-disciplines) at five levels of progression, incorporating technical, business and personal skills. Scotland's Colleges Seeks CEO

The Association of Scotland's Colleges, The Colleges Open Learning Exchange Group, Scotland's Colleges International and the Scottish Further Education Unit are merging to form on body. Its mission will be to promote support and the represent the best interests of member colleges whilst recognising their diverse needs.

Attitudes to Vocational Learning Review

The Scottish Government has published a literature review into attitudes to vocational learning. The purpose of the review was to identify, collate and review the research-based evidence, encompassing attitudes to vocational learning throughout life.

Forecast 

The European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training (Cedefop) has published a skills forecast for EU countries to 2020. Cedefop urges some caution in interpreting the data, however states that the forecast brings important insights into the likely future development of European labour markets.
