Annual Population Survey

The Scottish Government has published the Annual Population Survey, this publication presents analysis on the labour market, education and training. Results are presented for Scotland, Local Authority Areas, Deprived Areas, Urban/Rural Areas and, for the first time this year, the Highlands & Islands Enterprise Area. Among the findings was the discovery that In 2007, the working age employment rate for the Highlands & Islands Enterprise area was 81.9%, higher than the employment rate for the rest of Scotland (75.5%). The unemployment rate in the Highlands & Islands Enterprise area was considerably lower than unemployment in the rest of Scotland (2.8% for HIE and 4.9% for the rest of Scotland). LLUK Launch New NOS

Following extensive consultation with employers and stakeholders, Lifelong Learning UK has now developed the first combined suite of National Occupational Standards (NOS) for Libraries Archives and Information Services employers. The NOS were approved by the UK Commission for Employment and Skills (UKCES) in May 08. NOS have a series of different uses that can benefit both employers and employees. They can be used to support the development of: job descriptions, team structures/organisational redesign, recruitment advertisements, competency based frameworks, performance management and performance development tools, training programmes (at the level of both the organisation and the individual) and qualification frameworks.  More...
