Skills Body CEO Announced
Fiona Hyslop MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning, has announced that Damien Yeates, previously CEO of learndirect scotland, is to fill the post of CEO of Scotland's new skills body, Skills Development Scotland.
Commenting on the appointment, the Cabinet Secretary remarked, "I am delighted to announce the appointment of Damien Yeates to the post of chief executive of Skills Development Scotland. He brings with him more than 16 years of senior level experience within the economic development and skills sectors in Scotland. MA Awards 2008
The 7th Scottish Modern Apprenticeship Awards will take place on Wednesday the 26th of November at the Sheraton Edinburgh. The Awards are a celebration of the high standards now being reached by the many employers, centres and candidates involved in Modern Apprenticeships.

Financial Services
The Financial Services Skills Council (FSSC) is inviting practitioners involved in the management and prevention of financial crime to attend a consultation event in Edinburgh, to find out more about its project to develop National Occupational Standards for Countering Financial Crime.
One of a series of eight UK-wide consultation events, this free event in Edinburgh will take place on Tuesday 29 July at the Alliance Scotland, 28 Castle Street, Edinburgh, EH2 3HT from 10:30am to 2:00pm. The aim of the consultation events is a two-way information exchange, providing information about how NOS can be used by organisations and also giving delegates the opportunity to review some of the draft NOS units for Countering Financial Crime.

SSC CEOs Honoured in Birthday List
The Alliance is pleased to report that a number of SSC CEOs have been named in the Queen's Birthday Honours List 2008. Peter Lobban of ConstructionSkills, Keith Marshall of SummitSkills and Sarah Sillars of IMI Automotive Skills shall each receive an OBE at investitures in the coming months.
Congratulations to Peter, Keith, Sarah and their organisations for this recognition of their commitment to skills and learning.

New Skillset Film Trainee Scheme
Skillset recently celebrated the launch of its new Skillset Film Trainee Scheme at its first all-industry Skillset Connects event. Industry delegates turned up to mark the occasion, with speeches from supporting members of industry: Iain Smith (Producer, and Chair of the Film Industry Training Board), Roy Button (Senior VP and Managing Director Production, Warner Bros. Productions) and Janine Marmot (Director of Film, Skillset) to unveil the new scheme. The Skillset Film Trainee Scheme will place the best and brightest talent onto productions filming in the UK. Trainees will be heavily subsidised by Skillset, to help create a more diverse workforce by providing key productions with well-matched talent, helping them appoint the most suitable person, and giving trainees invaluable experience of working on set.

SSC at Royal Highland Show
Lantra has a full programme of events scheduled for this year's Royal Highland Show. Today, the SSC will celebrate the successes of women working in the land based industries and young people involved in rural skills courses at secondary schools across Scotland. The Lantra team will be available throughout the event with information on the support available to businesses and careers information.

The Scottish Government has announced an additional £5 million to support the establishment of Creative Scotland, a new agency to support Scotland's creative industries.
