Skills Policy Announcement Welcomed

Today's release of the Conservative Party's Green paper on Skills Policy has been welcomed by the Alliance of Sector Skills Councils.

"We're very pleased that the Conservative Party has identified the crucial importance of skills to the economic and social agenda by prioritising the area for a key policy announcement.

"We welcome the recognition that the document gives to the central role of Sector Skills Councils (SSCs) in articulating the needs of employers and shaping and delivering skills policy," Chair of the Alliance, John Rogers, said.

The Alliance is a membership organisation representing all of the United Kingdom's twenty five SSCs whose central role is working closely with industry to identify skill needs and influence education and training policy. Over eighty five per cent of the United Kingdom's workforce falls under the coverage of the Alliance.

"Providing industry with the skills needed requires much more than training. It requires working closely with industry and the education sector so that training, education and skills development is relevant and put to good use," Mr Rogers said.

Mr Rogers said that he, and the other SSCs, look forward to providing constructive input during the consultation phase, in partnership with our industries.
